Eulogy
Fr. Mervin is survived by his brother Ray (Helen) and by 15 nephews and nieces. Fr. Mervin was predeceased by his parents Irene and Joseph, by his sisters Maureen Gipp, Audrey Kennedy, also by his devoted housekeeper of 42 years, Joan Backshall. Fr. Mervin will be greatly missed by his close friends Larry and Barb Mullen, their 3 children, and especially by his brother priests of the Diocese of St. Catharines. Fr. Mervin was ordained in Toronto in 1952. His first assignment was at St. Mary's in Welland, followed by the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria. He then served as a Hospital Chaplain for three years. Fr. Mervin was then appointed as a Pastor at St. Elizabeth's, St. John Bosco, St. Patricks in Merriton and St. Martin of Tours in Smithville. Fr. Mervin retired in 1999, but continued to serve the faithful at the Cathedral until his death.
